Tropical Vacation Sour

This cocktail was inspired by a recent trip to the Wilson & Wilson Detective Agency, a craft cocktail bar within the famous Bourdon & Branch in San Francisco. The Skull Island Sour is a riff on a classic whisky sour but made with aged rum and other complex notes that dazzles the palette. After drinking it, it makes you long to be lost on a white sand beach somewhere in the Caribbean.

We made our own interpretation of their riff, yep a riff on a riff, including adding blood orange and vanilla to the orange honey syrup (recipe below). We also finally got to use some of the amazing bitters from the AZ Bitters Lab, from Chandler, AZ which were a gift from a friend.

INGREDIENTS:

2oz El Dorado 12 Year Rum
1oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1/2oz Orange Vanilla Honey Syrup
3 dashs AZ Bitters Lab Más Mole bitters
1 dash AZ Bitters Lab Orange Sunshine Bitters

Orange Honey Syrup Recipe

4oz Raw Honey
3oz Fresh Blood Orange Juice
1oz Water
1tsp Real Vanilla Extract (or 1 vanilla bean)

PREPARATION:

Separate the egg white into to a shaker with one ice cube. Shake like crazy to make a foam (at least 1 minute). Add the rest of the ingredients and add more ice cubes. Shake and then strain into a tumbler with ice. Garnish with three drops of Mas Mole bitters.
