Taste – St. Louis

Flew into St. Louis for the day job and ended up a night free.  Being the first time I have been to St. Louis I drove into what I think was downtown and went to the most popular craft cocktail bar that I could find.  Taste is that place.  They have a very nice selection of spirits along with vintage and craft cocktail options.  I tried a couple including their barrel aged negroni.  I like mine more but theirs was very smooth and the Lillet Rose was a nice touch instead of the classic vermouth. Okay, I really liked theirs a lot!

Good food is always important when drinking fine cocktails.  Hard part about going to a place like this alone is there is only so much you can try. I would have loved to try more.  I would have gone for more.  However I get to try the pork scrapple with brown butter and the most perfect fried egg on top.  Still not sure what scrapple is but it was crusty on the outside and seems to be made of pork mush and maybe some cornmeal or bread crumbs.

I also tasted BBQ braised short ribs with grit cake and swiss chard.  Super tender meat and I am always a sucker for anything made with grits and Taste doesn’t disappoint. The grit cake had a firm but creamy consistency and the swiss chard were tender with perfect seasoning.
